THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 3, 2009.

Dr. George Hamilton Bowen Jr. 82, of Ames, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Riverside Manor. No services will be held at the family’s request.

George was born June 20, 1925, in Tulsa, Okla., to George and Dorothy (Huntington) Bowen. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Marjorie Brown June 19, 1948, in Redondo Beach, Calif. He was a professor of physics at Iowa State University where he worked for 54 years. He enjoyed hiking and photography.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie, of Ames; five children, Paul (Jane) Bowen, of Atlanta, Margaret (Randall) Ewing, of Jenks, Okla., Carol (Peter) Leppert, of Rockford, Ill., Dorothy (James) Harms, of Mount Horeb, Wis., and Dr. Kevin (Constance) Bowen, of Rochester, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements.
