Shirley Eileen Larson, 86, passed away Sept. 24, 2009 at Taylor Hospice House. Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at College Avenue Christian Church with burial at Chapel Hill Gardens.

Shirley was born April 27, 1923 to Lowell Leslie Ross and Edith Van Gundy in Grand Meadow, Minnesota and graduated from Sioux Rapids High School. Shirley married Wallace Stanley Larson in Salina, Kansas during WWII. They resided in Des Moines for over 50 years.

Shirley retired from Meredith Corporation and was a member of College Avenue Christian Church and enjoyed her Crazy Eights Club. Shirley loved her family and will be greatly missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Larson; brother and sister-in-law, Merle and Dorothy Ross; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Roger Satory; and brother-in-law, Wally Anderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Mark) Craig; granddaughter, Katie (Nick) Hermanson; grandson, Kyle Craig, all of Story City; brother, Ray (Bonnie) Ross of Merced, California; sister, Marjorie Anderson of Spirit Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
