THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, October 9, 2009.

Margaret Manthei-Fellows, 95, passed onto the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Margaret was born June 11, 1914, in Gratiot County, Mich., to Arthur and Nancy Murray. She had an older brother, Lloyd, and a twin sister, Marjorie, whom preceded her in death.

Margaret met the love of her life, Chester A. Manthei, at a Michigan State dance. They were married July 11, 1936. They raised two children, Ron and Nancy. She was a devoted wife and mother. Chester always credited Margaret with his success in veterinary research and directorship of the National Animal Disease Center. Because of her involvement through veterinary wives, entertaining, and her constant support in general, it helped him attain his career goals. He preceded her in death in 1975. In 1980, she was fortunate to meet Glen C. Fellows. They were married April 4, 1981. They enjoyed a good life together for 28 years, residing in Ames and Jefferson.

She enjoyed volunteering at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames and spending time visiting at nursing homes. She also enjoyed being a member of Ames Woman’s Club, Veterinary Wives and ISU Faculty Wives.

She adored her family and friends and loved caring for and entertaining them. She had fun playing golf, bowling, dancing, playing bridge, shopping and traveling with her daughter and family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Glen; one son, Ronald (Diane) Manthei; one daughter, Nancy (Rolland) Maki; five grandchildren, Cameron and Kimberly Manthei, Amanda Weaver, Jillaina Koskela and Jena Maki; and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Brittan Koskela, and Evan Weaver.

Her entire family will miss her love, generosity and caretaking toward us throughout her life.
