Betty Macdonald, 74, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009. Services are pending with Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Betty Jane Macdonald, 74, of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, with her family at her side. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Faith Baptist Church in Cambridge. Burial will be in Cambridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Betty was born April 19, 1935, in Minneapolis, to Perry and Eva (Greene) Pettingill. Her family later moved to Shenandoah, where she married Boyd Brink. Of this marriage, a son, Larry, and daughters, Judy, Carol and Peggy, were born.

Over the years, Betty sang with the Ames Choral Society, served as city chairman for Girl Scouts in Ames for several years, served as board member on Ames United Way, and was a member of First Baptist Church, of Ames, where she served in many capacities.

In 1975, she married Lee Macdonald of Cambridge, and increased her family with eight stepchildren, Dennis, Carl, Allen, Becky, Faye, Greg, Heath and Ivy. Her large family kept her very busy, along with a fulltime job at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada. She retired on April 19, 1998.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Macdonald, of Cambridge; son, Larry (Janet) Brink, of Stockton, Calif.; three daughters, Judy (Dave) Brown, of Ames, Carol (Joel) Twedt, of Lake Mills, and Peggy (Ruben) Ordaz, of Des Moines; stepchildren, Dennis Macdonald, of Indianola, Allen (Deb) Macdonald, of Des Moines, Becky (Steve) Lewis, of Collins, Faye (Ken) Swan, of Ames, Greg (Denise) Macdonald, of McCallsburg, Heath (Susan) Macdonald, of Charlotte, N.C., and Ivy Macdonald, of Carlisle; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Lila) Pettingill, of Coarse Gold, Calif.; and two sisters, Nancy (Mel) Rennick, of Medford, Ore., and Janet (Darrell) Jones, of Shenandoah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one stepson, Carl; and first husband, Boyd Brink.
