Funeral services for Darlene Edith Schrum Cadwell will be held Friday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Manning, Iowa. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 30, from 4-7 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home, Manning. Interment will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Darlene Edith, daughter of Harry and Hattie
(Kolls) Boeck, was born January 3, 1921 in Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural school and then graduated with the Manilla High School Class of 1938. After attending Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Darlene taught country schools in Crawford County for several years.

On January 18, 1941, Darlene was united in marriage with Elroy Schrum. They lived in Manning and were the parents of seven children. Darlene was a World Book Encyclopedia district manager for 15 years, servicing many of the area schools. She and Elroy enjoyed traveling before his death in 1982. Darlene continued to live in their home in Manning.

In 1988, Darlene was united in marriage with Hal Cadwell of Manilla. They made their home in Manning for 20 years. They enjoyed being with both of their families and doing a lot of traveling.

Darlene was a member of the Cornerstone Family Church, Eastern Star and PEO Chapter IS. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and served on the Library Board. For years she was a member of a quilting group and Bible study group.

In May of 2009, Darlene became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home where she died on Monday, July 27, 2009, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 24 days.

Preceding Darlene in death are her parents; husband Elroy and brother Harvey Boeck and wife Glee.

She is survived by husband Hal Cadwell of Swan House in Carroll; children: Sharon and husband Keith Kelderman of Manning; Stan Schrum of Manning; Steve Schrum and wife Marilyn of Nevada; Sue and husband Dave Rauch of Manning; Sandy and husband Dale Moeller of Leon; Skip Schrum and wife Coleen of Alta and Sheila Schrum of Des Moines; Hal's children: Bonnie and husband David Bartels of Des Moines; Leonard Cadwell and wife Lana of Manilla; Verne Cadwell and wife Denise of Montezuma; Dean Cadwell and wife Val of Dallas Center and Cindy and husband David Peterson of Tulsa, OK; 32 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
