THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, August 5, 2009.

Kevin Richard Stephens, 45, of Ames, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Ames. Burial will be in Slater Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Kevin Stephens was born Feb. 4, 1964, in Shenandoah, to William Richard and Alice (Hays) Stephens. He graduated from Ballard Community High School in 1982. He completed an associate’s degree from Des Moines Area Community College.

He was employed by McDonald Supply in Ames. He was a member of the choir at First United Methodist Church and Pride of Iowa Barbershop Chorus of Des Moines. He was a fine goldsmith, and he enjoyed working on cars and watching NASCAR.

He is survived by his mother, Alice Stephens, of Ames; one sister, Lori Stephens, of Ames; one brother, Craig Stephens, of Norwalk; nieces and nephews, Michael, Kyle, Lucas, Caitlin and Alyssa; and a host of other family members.

He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents, Grover and Vea Hays, Stewart Stephens, and Lois Stephens-Bettis; and his step-grandfather, Cormie Bettis.
