William K. Naughton, 86, of Ames, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Abington on Grand in Ames. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Ames, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, with burial at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural in Gilbert.

William K. Naughton was born June 5, 1923, in Sioux City, the son of John M. and Florence (Davenport) Naughton. He graduated from West Des Moines Dowling Catholic High School. He then graduated from Loras College in Dubuque. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Kathleen Baldus Dec. 28, 1966, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Des Moines. He was employed as a field agent for the Internal Revenue Service in Des Moines until he retired. He then sold real estate for Iowa Realty. In 1989, Bill and Kathleen moved to Bella Vista, Ark., and lived there until 2005 when they returned to Ames.
He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he held a fourth degree. He was an avid golfer, Hawkeye fan and Notre Dame football fan.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Naughton, of Ames; one son, Patrick J. Naughton, of Lawrence, Kan.; one brother, Jim Naughton, of McLean, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and brothers, Jack and Gordon.
