THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, July 17, 2009.

Malcolm N. Locke, 74, of Ames, died Thursday, July 16, 2009, peacefully and surrounded by his family at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Malcolm Locke was born Dec. 13, 1934, in Milford, to Ward and Jessie (Riedesel) Locke. At the age of 2, he moved with his family to Nemaha, where he lived until leaving for college.

He was a highly respected glass man, working in commercial glass contracting in Des Moines at Forman-Ford Glass Company and Harkin Glass Company. In 1990, he purchased half interest in Orning Glass Company in Ames and retired from there in 2000. He was happily married to Connie (Fanning) Locke for 55 years. His many avid interests included fishing, hunting, woodworking, drawing, reading and corresponding with people.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Locke, of Ames; one daughter, Vicki (Dean) Locke Monthei, of Beaverton, Ore.; three sons, Jeffrey (Susan) Locke and Jason (Maria) Locke, all of Urbandale, and Justus Locke, of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Austin, Paden, Johnathan, Jessica, Victoria and Lucia; and two brothers, Vernon (Marilyn) Locke, of Evansdale, and Dennis Locke, of Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wanda Birner.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House.
