Frederick Virgil Sharp, 73 of Ames, died on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at his Ames home. Private funeral services were held on Monday, June 29, 2009. Burial was held in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Fred was born on November 18, 1935 in Nevada to John O. and Clara N. (Oakland) Sharp. He was a 1955 graduate of Nevada High School. Fred attended Iowa State University and completed Commercial Art classes. On August 31, 1958, he married Gloria Sinkler in Nevada. Fred had been employed as a Draftsman for the D.O.T. and as Maintenance Supervisor for H & F Apartment Division before his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and being outdoors.

Fred is survived by his wife, Gloria Sharp of Ames; a son, Jeff (Paula) Sharp of Greensboro, NC; a daughter, Carin (Ben) Knutson of Radcliffe; 2 grandchildren, Megan Sharp and Madelyn Sharp; 2 brothers, Max (Evelyn) Sharp of Hampton and Milford Sharp in Duluth, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 step sisters.

Visitation was held on Sunday, June 28 at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in Fred's memory.
