THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, June 26, 2009.

LaVaughn Wells, 101, of Ames, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Waterford of Ames. A private memorial service will be held.

She was born Sept. 1, 1907, in Cambridge, the daughter of John and Maud (Harrison) Lee. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1924 and the University of Iowa in 1928. She taught English for several years before marrying Paul R. Wells and residing in Maxwell, where they raised their son, Stephen, before moving to Ames.

She is survived by one sister, Patricia Holsteen; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Wells; two grandchildren, Robert Wells and Diane McCall; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Wallace Dean, George Wayne, Gayle and Carol; her husband; and one son.
