Fred V. Sharp, 73, of Ames, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at his home. Funeral services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Frederick Virgil Sharp, 73, of Ames, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at home. Private funeral services will be Monday, June 29. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 28, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.

Fred was born Nov. 18, 1935, in Nevada, to John O. and Clara N. (Oakland) Sharp. He was a 1955 graduate of Nevada High School. He attended Iowa State University and completed commercial art classes. On Aug. 31, 1958, he married Gloria Sinkler in Nevada. He had been employed as a draftsman for the Department of Transportation and as maintenance supervisor for H and F Apartment Division before he retired in 1995. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Sharp, of Ames; one son, Jeff (Paula) Sharp, of Greensboro, N.C.; one daughter, Carin (Ben) Knutson, of Radcliffe; two grandchildren, Megan Sharp and Madelyn Sharp; two brothers, Max (Evelyn) Sharp, of Hampton, and Milford Sharp, of Duluth, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and two stepsisters.

A memorial fund has been established in Fred’s memory.
