THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

Dr. John Newton Riley, 75, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Maranatha Manor in Sebring, Fla. Funeral services were Friday, June 12, at Maranatha Baptist Church in Sebring, Fla.

He was born in McMinnville, Ore., and was a distinguished professor of industrial and vocational technology at Iowa State University for 25 years. He lived for 34 years in Jordan, Iowa, and was a member of Campus Baptist Church in Ames. He was known for his wisdom and the care in which he mentored his students and children to not only love their work but to have meaning and purpose in all they did. Ultimately, his greatest priority in life was honoring his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and inviting others to consider God in their lives.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet, of Sebring, Fla.; two daughters, Karen (Curt) DeGraaff, of Des Moines, and Debra (Mark) Richardson, of Clearwater, Fla.; three sons, Kenneth (Margy) Riley, of Lake Ann, Mich., John (Pam) Riley, of Austin, Minn., and Stephen (Jackie) Riley, of Hillsboro, Ore.; one brother, Alex Riley, of California; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Gifts in honor of his life may be made to the international ministry at Campus Baptist Church, 57011 U.S. Highway 30, Ames, IA, 50010.
