THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, May 27, 2009.

Norma Wirtz, 84, of Ames, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Adams Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 29, at First United Methodist Church in Ames. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery.

Norma was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Austin, Minn., to Peter and Leonora (Erickson) Henderson. She was a 1942 graduate of McCallsburg High School. She married Lemuel “Lem” Wirtz Jan. 14, 1945, in McCallsburg. They moved to Ames from Nevada in 1959. She was a bookkeeper at Collegiate Pacific. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the church circle. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and church circles in Nevada. She enjoyed all kinds of stitchery, camping, traveling and visiting with her family and friends.

She is survived by one son, Art (Kathy), of Gilbert, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Adam Wirtz, Kelly (Aaron) Stephens, Lisa (Jeff) Cox and Laura Robillard; four great-grandchildren, Nora Stephens, Haven Robillard, and Dalton and Dakota Cox; three sisters, Alice (Myron) Pickering, of Des Moines, Pauline (Dick) Thomas, of Maxwell, and Lucille Lillard, of Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lem (2002); one daughter, Judy Breitwieser (1987); one grandson, Kurt Breitwieser (1999); and two sisters, Pearl and Alta.

Memorials may be made to Israel Family Hospice House or First United Methodist Church.
