THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, May 26, 2009.

Margaret Helen Swanson, 82, of Ankeny, formerly of Ames, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th St., in Nevada, with Pastors Rick Miller and David R. Burling officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, also at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

Margaret was born Oct. 10, 1926, in Ossian, to Elden and Eunice (Sesker) Nelson. She was a graduate of North High School in Des Moines. On Sept. 15, 1946, Margaret married Keith Swanson in Des Moines. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and the Red Friars Dance Club. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandchildren play sports, dancing and playing cards. She and Keith had season tickets to the ISU men’s and women’s basketball games, which Margaret loved attending.

She is survived by her husband, Keith, of Ankeny; two daughters, Sandra Robinson, of Nevada, and Tracy Sabus, of Urbandale; two sons, Keith Swanson Jr., of Des Moines, and David Swanson, of Parkersburg; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ted Nelson, of Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Donnie Robinson, on Dec. 2, 2004; and two brothers, Don and Gene Nelson.

A memorial fund has been established in Margaret’s name.
