Robert “Bob” Lee Burnett, 91, of Nevada, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada.
Bob was born Sept. 10, 1917, at Nevada, the son of Robert John and Greta (Huddleston) Burnett. He married Ethel Marie Stevenson Oct. 16, 1939, in Marshalltown. She preceded him in death in 1975. He married Carol (Aukland) Tye April 17, 1976, in Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
He owned and worked for Burnett Electric as a maintenance electrician. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. He was a former member of Foresters and the Moose Lodge, and enjoyed traveling, playing cards and camping, and was an avid cribbage player. He enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife, Carol. He lived all but three years of his life in Story County.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Nevada; one son, Steve (Tina) Burnett, of Winter Springs, Fla.; two stepsons, Kevin Tye, of Nevada, and Allan (Sheila) Tye, of Nevada; two daughters, Rita (Ron) Gehrts, of Madisonville, Tenn., and Kathy (Robert) Walker, of Iowa Center; two stepdaughters, Nancy (Loren) Donaldson, of Ames, and Jeanine (Rod) Pfantz, of Nevada; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one brother, George (Betty) Burnett, of Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ethel; four sisters, Florence Clayberg, Dorothy Matheason, Fern Finningan and an infant sister, Anna; one brother, Howard Burnett; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Tye.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
