THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, May 1, 2009.
Thomas Cole Tanner, 40, of Winterville, Ga., died Saturday, April 25, 2009. A private memorial service will be at a later date. A native of Corvallis, Ore., Tom was the son of Richard Thomas and Sarah Johnson Tanner, of Boone. He graduated from Ames High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Willamette University in Salem, Ore. Tom went on to get his master’s degree in economics at Iowa State University, and then his Ph.D. in economics at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. He was the director of the Center for Economic Modeling at Clemson University.
Tom’s love for the theater allowed him to be associated with the Duluth Playhouse in Duluth, Minn., the Des Moines Playhouse in Des Moines, the Boone Community Theater in Boone, and the Town and Gown Players in Athens, Ga. An avid hiker, Tom had extensively traveled Europe and the western U.S., his favorite hiking location being Escalante, Utah.
In addition to his parents, Tom is survived by his daughter, Camryn Sarah Tanner, of Carlton, Ga., and countless friends in his theater community.
In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family has requested donations be made in his memory to the Town and Gown Players, P.O. Box 565, Athens, Ga. 30601.
