Rhoda E. Grubb

Rhoda Grubb, age 79, of Ellsworth, died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at the Israel Family Hospice in Ames of bulbar palsy (ALS). Funeral services were held at the Ellsworth Community Center at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26. Burial was in the Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.

Rhoda Evelyn Grimsley was born April 4, 1920 in Randall, to Miller and Murna (Johnson) Grimsley. She grew up in the Roland area, graduating from Milford Township High School in 1938. On May 20, 1943 Rhoda married Nolan Clinton Grubb in Roland. They lived north of Ellsworth on a farm. In October 1997, she moved into a home in Ellsworth. Due to her health (progression of ALS), she moved to the Israel Family Hospice House on April 5, 1999. Ronda was a homemaker. She enjoyed a real ministry of remembering people with cards and letters. She always listened to Christian music, which was a real source of inspiration to her and those around her. Her life was a brilliant example of selflessness, always thinking of others. Never once did we hear her complain or question, "Why me?" It was always "Whatever the Lord wills for me." Her wonderful sense of humor prevailed even as she struggled to the end.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Steinseifer and husband, Don of Prairie View, Illinois, Carol Cheng and husband, Julian of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Wanda Narayan and husband, James of Kansas City, Missouri; daugher-in-law, Gerda Grubb of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; one son, Mark Grubb and wife, Holly of Ellsworth; one sister, Ardyce Peterson of Randall; 10 grandchildren, Victoria Steinseifer Collier and husband, William, Rebecca and Timothy Grubb, Jeremiah and Micah Cheng, Clinton and Daniel Narayan, Laura, Anthony, and Trevor Grubb.

Rhonda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Curtis, and son, Arthur.

Memorials may be given to the Israel Family Hospice House, 400 South Dakota, Ames, Iowa 50014.
