THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 22, 2009.

Dale Wendt, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, by Pastor David Bissell. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the funeral home.

Dale was born July 8, 1927, the son of George and Lula (Crawford) Wendt, in Harris, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army. On Aug. 1, 1966, he married Ann Phelps in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was a carpenter for more than 50 years and owned Wendt Construction.

He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the U.S. Army “White Coats” and Scout Master Troop 29.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Dennis (Sue) Wendt, of Cedar Rapids, Thomas (Tina) Wendt, of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Timothy (Christine) Wendt and Dustin (Casey) Wendt, both of Cedar Rapids, and Dodie (Mike) Tedesco, of Independence; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ada Downs, of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Al, Ray, Jim and Warner; and one sister, Izetta Lutzen.

Memorials may be directed to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in memory of Dale.
