THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, April 14, 2009.

Bernard M. “Bernie” Zinsli, 84, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Ark. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1300 NE J St., Bentonville, AR., with Father Michael Sinkler officiating.

Bernie Zinsli was born May 29, 1924, in Sentinel Butte, N.D., the son of Hertha P. and Raymond L. Zinsli. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II. He married Twila B. Tompkins on Oct. 7, 1944, in Long Beach, Calif. For more than 30 years, he lived in Pleasant Valley and was the owner of Bernie’s Phillips 66 in Davenport. He was retired from Lions International, where he was the field representative for 12 years in Ames. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. He was president of the Metfield Neighbors.

He is survived by four children: daughter, Kittie Bloomer and husband, Ron, of Bella Vista, Ark., daughter, Marianne Schroeder and husband, Randy, of Bettendorf, daughter, Maureen Doane, of Bella Vista, Ark., and son, Jeff Zinsli and wife, Heidi, of Chanhassen, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Twila; two sons, Matthew and Anthony; three brothers, Harry, Ray and Jerry; and one sister, Mary Ann.
