THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
Evelyn Josephine Hanson Larson, of Huxley, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley, with burial in Palestine Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Palestine Lutheran Church.
Evelyn was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Garfield Township near Clark, S.D., the daughter of Sigurd and Christine (Kloster) Hanson. She was baptized in Clark Center Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Crocker Lutheran Church in Crocker, S.D. She attended the rural schools and one year of high school in Thorp, then attended Clark High School for her sophomore year. She then came to Iowa in 1935 to help take care of elderly relatives and graduated from Alleman High School in 1937.
She married Lawrence Larson Feb. 20, 1937, at the Palestine Lutheran Church parsonage. The Rev. Jacobson officiated. They lived on the farm where Lawrence lived his entire life. Lawrence preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1989.
She was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley. She was active in Ladies Aid and the quilting group. She was a charter member of the Second Milers Club.
She moved to Huxley in August 1991, and continued with the quilting projects of the church.
She is survived by her two sons, Virgil (Diane) Larson, of Maxwell, and Kenneth (Louise) Larson, of Huxley; two sisters, Helen Thompson, of Mitchell, S.D., and Arlene Bird, of Toronto, S.D.; three brothers, George Hanson, of Clark, S.D., Roy Hanson, of Wilmington, Del., and Lee Hanson, of Minnetonka, Minn.; sister-in-law, Gloria Hanson, of Littleton, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Brent (Michelle) Larson, of Nevada, Aaron (Nicole) Larson, of Huxley, Michael (Holly) Larson, of Huxley, Benjamin Larson, of Temple, Texas, Kendra (Josh) Rice, of Cedar Rapids, Shane (Julie) Larson, of New York, N.Y., Cory (Amy) Larson, of Huxley, Andrew (Cally) Larson, of Huxley, and Lori (Jim) Newmann, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and 13 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Zachary, Nickolas, Taylor, Maggie, Kasey, London, Annika, Colin, Abbie, Henry, Isaac and Whitney.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Alvin; her parents; and two brothers, Alfred and Bernard.
Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is in charge of arrangements.
