Kristeen Kay Glick was born March 1, 1959 at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa to Sharon Kay (Kinney) and Milton Duane Glick. She died March 29, 2009 after a two year battle with Leukemia.

Kris was raised in the Creston, Tingley and Mount Ayr area. She started to school in Ellston, during the years of consolidation with Mount Ayr Community School. She graduated from Mount Ayr in 1977. In the fall of 1977 she entered Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri where she received her Bachelors Degree in Education with a minor in music in 1981. Unable to get a teaching position at the time, she continued at the University in Maryville receiving her Masters of Science in Education Degree in 1986. Later she completed further classes at Drake University to include endorsements for Multicat K-6, Learning Disabilities, and Emotionally Disturbed. Her practicum was done at Cherokee Mental Health, working with K-6 students with very special problems. It was at this time in 1988 that she received her permanent Professional License.

It was well known that Kris frequently furnished school books, workbooks, and needed teaching supplies for her students. Special education budgets rarely cover enough teaching aids and materials to meet the requirements for the subjects and grade levels needed to assist eight to twelve students. Consequently Kris purchased what was needed so her students had an equal opportunity to learn with others. She spent many nights copying materials from other sources to be sure supplies were available and at a level that each student could understand. Her sixth sense told her when students needed extra time to talk, extra attention or just a hug or a pat on the shoulder to say “I care”.

Kris loved music. She was active in church choir wherever she went, often shared her talent at weddings, funerals, and special occasions and was a past member of the Radical Minority group and later Ringgold Singers. While in Maryville she sang with the Wesley Singers as they traveled and witnessed for the Lord. It was a sad time for her when her health deteriated and she no longer could sing. Kris was a member of the Methodist Church and was always ready to sing Praises for the Lord.

Kris taught 14 years in the Grand Valley School system before moving on to Laguey, Missouri School district for one year and then three years in Lebanon, Missouri Community School System. In September of 2001 she returned to Iowa to teach at the Ames Community School District where she taught until the time of her death.

Kris was a friend to all she met. Her students remember her as the teacher who challenged them to do better and to never give up, no matter how discouraged they got. She was always there to give a hug of encouragement and ready to listen no matter how busy she might be. “Her kids” were her life throughout her years of teaching. She often got phone calls and visits from students who had been in her classroom, praising her for pushing them forward and being instrumental in helping them achieve success.

Survivors include her parents, Duane and Sharon Glick of Mount Ayr; brother, Kevin Glick (fiancé) Debbie Means of Creston; niece Tena Snethen of Mount Ayr; great nephew Brandon Berry of Mount Ayr; grandmother Helen Spencer of Mount Ayr and a host of cousins, family and friends.

Kristeen was preceded in death by her great-grandmother Julia Henderson; grandparents Dallas and Ruby Glick, and Clark Kinney; step grandfather Owen Spencer; uncles Allan (Bud) Kinney and Marlin Glick; and nephew James Duane Glick.
