THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, March 27, 2009.
Philip C. Hoffman, 65, of Des Moines, peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at his home. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Philip was born Nov. 11, 1943, in East Liverpool, Ohio, a son to Robert Bruce Hoffman and Elsie Thomas. He married Linda Jewett in September 1964, in Wellsville, Ohio. They moved to Des Moines and had a son, Mark Hoffman. Philip remarried on Dec. 2, 1967, to Lorna L. Norris, in Des Moines.
He was a carpenter and member of the Carpenter’s Local Union 106 for 40 years. He was known for his craftsmanship and having an eye for detail. He enjoyed painting, playing his banjo, knife making, fishing, and finding unique treasures while using his metal detector.
His best memories are the many trips he made to Alaska to visit his brothers, Robert (April) Hoffman and Darius (Joyce) Hoffman and their families.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lorna; two sons, Craig Hoffman and Mark Hoffman; one daughter, Stacy Hoffman and her fiancé, Scott Gohlman; grandchildren, two Courtney and Darr Hoffman; and one nephew, Adolfo Hoffman. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Darius and David Hoffman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
Arrangements are being handled by Memorial Services of Iowa.
