Emery Krebs, 82, of Maxwell, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, with Masonic services at 8 p.m.
Emery was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Des Moines, the son of Emery and Myrtle (Sally) Krebs. He married Barbara Anne Evans on Dec. 18, 1946, at Colfax. She preceded him in death in February 1985. He was a Carpenter’s Mate Third Class in the Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific, Philippines and Guam. In 1946, he attended refrigeration school in Des Moines. He worked in Colfax until 1951. From 1951 to 1953, he farmed near Zearing, and from 1953 to 1957 he farmed near Collins. From 1956 to 1967, he worked at John Deere in Ankeny, having become a supervisor.
In 1967, he went into the insurance and finance businesses until 1971, when he went into sales of city equipment until 1976. In 1976, he founded Krebs Enterprises and founded Hydr-Klean. He retired in 1992.
He was a member of the Maxwell American Legion, VFW of Ankeny, National Rifle Association and Collins Masonic Lodge 513. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.
He is survived by three sons, Kyle Krebs, of Ames, Kim (Teresa) Krebs, of Nevada, and Kory and Barbette Krebs, of Maxwell; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Howard Krebs, of Northfield, Minn.; and very good longtime friend and companion, Betty Long, of Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Memorials may be given to Israel Family Hospice House, 600 S. Dakota Ave., Ames, IA, 50014.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
