Farrar Woman Burns to Death In Her Garden
Special to the Ames Tribune
MAXWELL-Miss Hattie Knowlton, 86, was burned to death Wednesday afternoon in the flower garden of her home at Farrar, south of here.
Miss Knowlton's body was found by her niece, Mrs. Minnie Geddes, who made her home with her aunt. Apparently the aged woman's clothing had caught fire while she was raking and burning leaves in the garden.
Miss Knowlton was born in Canada and came to this vicinity from Illinois about 60 years ago. She taught school at Farrar and was the town's postmistress for 15 years.
The only other relative a nephew, James Knowlton, is on his way here to arrange funeral services.
