Slater Man Is Killed as Car Strikes Gravel

SLATER—Henry Roney, 70, of Slater, was killed and his wife and sister, Mrs. Mary Barrow, 85, also of Slater, were seriously injured in an automobile accident one quarter of a mile west of Slater Sunday morning at 11 o'clock.

Mr. and Mrs. Roney and Mrs. Barrow were enroute to Boone when loose gravel on the road caused Mr. Roney to lose control of the car, which turned over three times and went into the ditch. Passing motorists extricated Mr. Roney from the wreckage and rushed him and other occupants of the car to a doctor's office at Slater. Mr. Roney died a few minutes later of internal injuries.

Mr. Roney had owned and operated a farm near Boone for 10 years prior to moving to Slater eight years ago, when he retired from active farm life. He is survived by his wife, another sister in Boone and one at Cedar Rapids and a cousin, John Roney at Nevada.

Funeral arrangements were pending word from relatives Monday.
