E. C. SAWYER, REAL ESTATE DEALER, IS PNEUMONIA VICTIM

In Business In City For Twenty-Six Years

Edwin C. Sawyer, 52, of 622 Duff avenue, a prominent Ames business man for 26 years, died at 6 a. m., Sunday at the Mary Greeley hospital. Death was due to double pneumonia. He had been in ill health for the past several years.

He was born in Goodland, Ind., Feb. 11, 1884, the son of Samuel Lewis and Ellen Sawyer. The family settled near Garden prarie, in Boone county, in March, 1901, and were among the early settlers in this community.

Meat Business

He was married to Miss Anna Gamrath in Boone March 15, 1905, and came with her to Ames in 1910 where Mr. Sawyer, was engaged in the meat business with his father-in-law, Lew Gamrath, from 1910 to 1913. In that year he opened a real estate office in the Ames National Bank building. In 1931 his son-in-law, D. S. Triplett, joined him and together the two have operated the real estate office since. Mr. Triplett will continue the business from the same office. Mr. Sawyer was a member oŁ the I. O. O. F. here.

Funeral Wednesday

Surviving him are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. D. S. Triplett of Ames; two brothers, Gordon A., of Ames, and Lewis E. of California, and one grandson, James Triplett of Ames.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m., Wednesday from the Adams chapel, with the Rev. A R. Mclaughlin of the Congregational church and the Rev. Walter Barlow of the Collegiate Presbyterian church in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.

Nichol Rites Will Be Held At 10:30 Wed.

Funeral services for Roscoe E. Nichol, city attorney who died Monday morning, will be held at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday from the First Methodist church, with the Rev. Walter A. Morgan, pastor of the church, in charge, it was announced late Monday. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.

The city hall will be closed all morning, and city officials will attend the funeral services in a body. City hall offices will be reopened at 1 p. m.

It was reported that numerous Ames business men and out-of-town friends and relatives will be here Wednesday for the Nichol rites in the morning and for the E. C. Sawyer rites at 2 p. m.

Final Services for Mr. Sawyer, prominent real estate man who died Sunday, will be held from the Adams chapel, with the Rev. Arthur R. McLaughlin of the Congregational church and the Rev. Walter Barlow of the Collegiate Presbeterian church in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.
