THE AME TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, February 28, 2009.
Clayton Dennis Clifford, 81, of Ames, and formerly of Nevada, died on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 at First United Methodist Church in Ames with the Rev. Frederick J. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Clayton was born Sept. 27, 1927 in Worthington, Minn., to Hermes D. and Dorothy D. (Hover) Clifford. On Sept. 16, 1967, he married Martha R. Wirtz in Keokuk. He farmed with his father in Story County before entering the U.S. Army, where he served from 1951-53. When he returned, he continued farming with his father until 1963, when he became an electronic technician in the Electrical Engineering Department at ISU until he retired in 1991. He then spent another seven years at Carr Hardware downtown store. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ames.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Clifford of Ames; three daughters, Susan Clifford, of Ankeny, Nancy (Steve) Iturria, of Greenwood, Ind., and Laura (Robert) Cichewicz of Norman, Okla.; four grandsons, Brian and Michael Iturria, and Lincoln and Jackson Cichewicz.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Monday, March 2, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.
