Robert “Bob” Farley, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Boone County Hospital in Boone. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.
Friends may call from 1 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service will be at 7 p.m.
Bob was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Boone, the son of Simon and Gertrude (Parrish) Farley. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. On Dec. 29, 1946, he married Rosemary Grigsby in Des Moines. He was a car and tire dealer. He owned and operated Blank and Farley Used Cars in Des Moines from 1946 to 1950, Bob Farley Nash Motors in Perry from 1950 to 1954, Bob Farley Pontiac and GMC in Boone from 1954 to 1959, Bob Farley Used Cars in Southern California from 1959 to 1968, and Farley Wholesale Tire Company in Boone from 1969 to the present, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Iowa Car Dealers Associations, California Car Dealers Associations, Iowa Tire Dealers Association, Boone Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He enjoyed blarney and a good story, his sports car collection, and spending time with his family and traveling.
He is survived by five sons, Pat (Connie), of St. Charles, Mike (Colleen), Tim (Mary), Brian, and Kevin (Carrie), all of Boone; two daughters, Suzy (Pat) Riordan, of Seattle, Wash., and Julie (Tom) Arndt, of Iowa City; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard (Martha) Farley, of Lakeland, Fla., Donald Farley, of Anaheim, Fla., and Marvin (Joy) Farley, of Mountain Home, Ark.; and two sisters, Marge Murphy, of Mountain Home, Ark., and Joanne Hall of Baltimore, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Rosemary, in 2006.
