THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, February 17, 2009.

Ashlie Marie Duit, 21, of Nevada, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Nevada First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Ashlie’s family will greet friends and relatives beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Ashlie was born Dec. 21, 1987, in Iowa City, the daughter of Devin and Cindy (Peck) Duit. She graduated from Nevada High School in 2006 and was attending Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny. She was a member of Nevada First United Methodist Church.

She was known for her sense of humor and the smile on her face. She was a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She was a great speaker and told her story regarding being an organ donor recipient and about organ donor awareness. She made her hospital stays fun and loved making every day a great day. She knew the joy of “giving back.”

She is survived by her parents, Devin and Cindy Duit, of Nevada; one sister, Brittany Duit, of Nevada; her maternal grandfather, Don Peck, of Zearing; her paternal grandparents, Duane and Marge Duit, of Nevada; five uncles; four aunts; many cousins; and a community of friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Arlene Peck; one uncle, Russ Peck, and one cousin, Andrew Peck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Ashlie Marie Duit Memorial Fund.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
