THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, February 10, 2009.

Chuck Merritt was welcomed into the presence of God on Sunday morning, Feb. 8, 2009. His death came quickly and with little apparent pain from heart failure due to massive blood clots to the lungs.

There will be a viewing and time of gathering for family and friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Good Grief INC, 312 Main St., in Slater. Closest family and friends will gather again at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the same location, to process to Slater Municipal Cemetery for a brief committal at 11 a.m. They will meet at noon at United Methodist Church of Slater, Fourth and Story streets, for a time of sharing and remembrance, a fellowship luncheon to be served at 1 p.m., and an informal time of singing of worship songs and hymns.

Charles Worth Merritt was born Nov. 4, 1949, in Eureka, Calif., the second son of Leonard W. Merritt and Margaret Rothfus. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and Simpson College in Indianola. He came to know Jesus Christ as his lord and savior and dedicated himself to full-time Christian ministry at New Life Center in Des Moines. He married his wife of 15 years, Lisa Roxanne Stuart, on May 22, 1993, in Des Moines. They were blessed with two fine children, Eliza Mae and Stuart Worth. For the last 10 years, the family has had the privilege of living and serving in the community of Slater, where he continued in a ministry of intercessory prayer. He founded Times of Refreshing, a nonprofit foundation for the financial support of eligible ministries.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his brother, Robert and family, of Corvallis, Ore., and half-brother, Leonard Moreland, of Hammond, La., among other family members, and many, many brothers and sisters in Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Food for the Poor Inc. (account 67174), 6401 Lyon Road, Coconut Creek, FL, 33073.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Tim Grandon on behalf of Good Grief INC (In the Name of Christ) End of Life Services, Slater.
