THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, January 25, 2009.

Chris Jason Kauffman, 50, of Berthoud, Colo., died at Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Pathways Hospice, McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colo.

Chris Kauffman was born Sept 13, 1958 in Saigon, South Vietnam, the son of Cay C. and Jessie Kauffman. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Marie Kauffman, of Berthoud; one daughter, Caitlyn Anne Kauffman, a student at Colorado State University; one sister, Kathryn, and her husband, Ken Coulson, of Loveland; one brother, Douglas, and his wife, Kimberly, of Maryville, Tenn.; and his father, Cay, of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Kauffman.

After growing up in Pennsylvania and Iowa, Chris graduated from Ames High School in 1976 and from Iowa State University in 1981 with degrees in aeronautical and mechanical engineering.

He then began work for the IBM Corporation, where he had a fulfilling career working on many rewarding projects such as NASA’s space shuttle, and last an assignment in Melbourne, Australia.

Chris Kauffman was proud of the community service he performed as a volunteer fire fighter while living in Clear Lake, Texas.

He also was an avid fly fisherman when he could find a river.
