Roger B. Clymer, 93, of Story City, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services are pending with Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Roger B. Clymer, 93, formerly of Boone, and Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, from surgery complications at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Roger Clymer was born Oct. 1, 1915, on a farm near Peru, Ind. He was the second of four children born to Chester and Elsie (Borden) Clymer. He grew up working hard on the family farm and followed this passion into his schooling. He attended Purdue University where he played football and worked on his major in dairy industries. He married Josephine Beatrice Gowing in 1941. They had three children and later moved to Boone to raise their family. Together they started their own business, the All-Star Boone Dairy. He worked hard making milk, ice cream and was one of the first to introduce “Sippers” (juice boxes). Later, they ran an ice cream shop full of donuts and ice cream goodies. He also enjoyed building anything with wood and his own family houseboat. He spent free time teaching his children and grandchildren to fish, boat and golf, and attended their many events. Roger and Josephine later retired to Scottsdale, Ariz., and spent their golden years traveling to visit friends and family from the comfort of their Airstream mobile home. For the last few years, they returned to Iowa, and following the death of Josephine, his wife, he recently lived in Cedar Place. There he found comfort, friendship and love from his Cedar Place friends, especially his girl, Marge Tesdall.

Survivors include his brother, Ralph Clymer; sister, Jo Kopke; and his children, sons, John (Dea) Clymer, Bob (Betty) Clymer, and daughter, Jo Myers-Walker. He is also survived by nine granddaughters, one grandson and 16 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Josephine; his parents; and one sister, Millie McGuire.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends that appreciated his warm, loving and kind nature. His innovative, creative nature was admired by all. He gave everything to support and love his family and friends. This unconditional love is a lasting memory for everyone.

Soderstrum Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
