Mary L. Viers passed away on Jan. 26, 2009, at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, from complications of open heart surgury. She was born on March 2, 1933 to Coral and Harper White, Maxwell, Iowa.

On July 8, 1951 she married Kenton Viers, also from Maxwell Iowa. Mary worked outside the home for most of her married life, providing for her family along with her husband. She worked many years for the Nevada Journal in the Frank and Wit Ledbetter days of the 1960s, and later went on to work at the Maxwell State Bank for over 20 years. Mary enjoyed many outdoor activities, with golf topping the list. She brought home many golf trophies from the Indian Creek Country Club, and enjoyed an active social life there as well.

She retired to Cherokee Village, Arkansas in 1997 to live in a more moderate climate and pursue her love of golf there. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and is survived by her husband, Kenton, brothers Jerry and Joe, sisters Dana Shaeffer, Ona Siporan, two sons, Chris and Eric, and many grandchildren. Services will be held in Cherokee Village, Arkansas, at a later date.
