Deaf Mute Passes Away

Samuel L. Ballard and old and respected deaf mute died suddenly at Story City last Thursday at the age of 71 years. Mr. Ballard was born in New York, but came to Howard township in 1857, being one of the early settlers. He lived on a farm southwest of here until a few years ago, when he moved to Story City, making his home with his sister, Mrs. H. F. Ferguson.

The funeral was held at Story City, Sunday, after which the remains were interred in the Sheffield cemetery.
