Ames Man found dead

A rural Ames man was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head by a .22 caliber rifle, according to Story County sheriff's department.
Millard E. Down, 79, R.R. 1, was found at his residence by his wife, sheriff's deputies said. The gunshot wound was self-inflicted, according to the county medical examiner.
Funeral services are tentatively set for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from Stevens Memorial Chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Olive and two sons, Walt of Kelley and Joe of R.R. 1.

Services scheduled fro Millard Downs
Funeral services for Millard E. Downs, 79, R.R. 1, will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Stevens Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Clay Lumpkins officiating. Burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Downs died May 20 at his home.
Mr. Downs was born May 15, 1894 in Sullivan, Ill. He was married to Olive A. Scrogin Oct. 10, 1911 at Decatur, Ill. The couple moved to Iowa in 1913 and to Ames in 1933.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Walter of Kelley, and Boyd of R.R. 1, two sisters, Mrs. Rose Lochard, South San Francisco, Calif. and Mrs. Elma Screech of Washington, D.C.; six grand children and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Stevens Memorial Chapel now until the time of services.
