Evelyn Laurine Blakeley was born Jan. 14, 1931, in rural Boone County, the daughter of Lawrence and Lela (Fairchild) Johnson. She was a graduate of Ogden High School. She married John H. Blakeley Sept. 24, 1953, in Cedar Rapids.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau Women and had worked for Fareway Groceries and Citizen's Bank before becoming a full-time mother and farm wife. The couple farmed northeast of Boone until John's retirement in fall 2002. She was very interested in her family's history and did genealogy research.

Her parents and husband, John in February 2003, preceded her in death.
