Otto P. "Benny" Bonin, age 87, of Dows, went to heaven on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.
Funeral services for Otto Bonin were held Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at the First Lutheran Church in Dows. Pastor Robert Edwards officiated. Burial took place at the Colo cemetery in Colo, Iowa on Monday afternoon. Graveside military rites were conducted by the American Legion Colo Post #139.
Otto Paul Henry Bonin was born on May 14, 1921, on a farm near Buckeye, Iowa to Max and Edith (Mitchell) Bonin. He attended school in the Iowa Falls, Iowa area.On November 2, 1940, Otto and Ida Johnson were married in Burt, Iowa. To this union nine children were born: Linda, Judy, Pat, Pauline, MaDonna, David, LouAnn, Daniel and Shirley.
Otto enlisted at age twenty-two on September 18, 1943, in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was a laborer who retired in 1986 and moved from Colo, Iowa to Dows. In 1996, his wife Ida passed away.
Otto enjoyed fishing, dancing, woodworking, playing cards (especially Pepper), and watching old westerns and war movies on video.
He married Beverly Barz on July 25, 1998, in Dows, Iowa. They resided in the Dows area.Otto is survived by his wife, Beverly; five children, Judy Kreitlow of Kirbyville, Missouri, Patricia (Donald) Lane of Dows, David (Joy) Bonin of Belmond, LouAnn (Leroy) Sharp of Cushing, Oklahoma and Shirley (Charles) Pack of Des Moines; two sister, Louise Roberts of Iowa Falls and Ethel Shane of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews blessed Otto's life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Herman, Max, and Hugo; one sister Viola Whipple; wife Ida, one son Daniel and three daughters Linda, MaDonna and Pauline.
