Dec. 9, 1942-Nov. 29, 2008

Denny "Butch" Hansen, 65, of Ames and formerly of Des Moines, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at his home. A gathering of friends and family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames. A celebration of Denny's life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, with a 3 p.m. committal graveside service in Newton Union Cemetery.

Denny was born Dec. 9, 1942, in Humboldt, the son of Denison L. and Sylvia P. (Gorden) Hansen. He graduated from Humboldt High School and AIB in Des Moines. He married Judith A. Young Jan. 25, 1964, in Osage. She preceded him in death on May 30, 1981. He married Diane R. Cross on Jan. 18, 1986, in Newton.

He was employed as a sales manager for King Loan, Newton Manufacturing Company and Gold Bond. During his retirement years, he delivered flowers for Bill Doran Company, of Des Moines, retiring in 2007.

He enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren, golfing, gardening, camping, Iowa State Cyclones and Minnesota Vikings. He was involved with Elks Lodge 1270 of Newton, and Newton Lodge 59 A.F. and A.M. of Newton.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Hansen, of Ames; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri and Gregg Gray, of Ames, and Lori and Rick Berning, of Plymouth, Minn.; stepson, Matt Milligan, of Baxter; stepdaughter and husband, Andrea and Aaron Parker, of North Attleboro, Mass.; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Dennis Macumber, of Palatine, Ill.; brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Shawn Hansen, of Nisswa, Minn.; and beloved grandchildren, Shaun, Jessica and Dalton Howerton, and Judy, Josh and Drew Berning.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judy.
