THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 18, 2008.

Leo Donald Hutchens, 78, of West Des Moines, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center after a courageous three-year battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at McLaren's Chapel, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery, both in West Des Moines.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the funeral home.

He married Reba Mae Beasley on Oct. 2, 1949. They had four children, Debbie (Bob) Schierbaum, of Creston, Linda (Dick) Geil, of Ames, Denise McCann, of Chicago, and Scott (Amy) Hutchens, of Des Moines. He was a proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He will be lovingly cherished by his wife of 59 years, Reba, and his family, who will always remember his quick wit, stories and his elephant-like memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be directed to lung cancer research.
