Dr. Stillwell, Former Ames Resident, Dies

Dr. John D. Stillwell, 60, who was born in Ames and spent the first 30 years of his life here, died Saturday at his home in Indianapolis, Ind.

Dr. Stillwell was born in Ames May 18, 1875. He was graduated from Iowa State college, receiving a veterinary medicine degree from the college in 1905. He then started practice at Paullina, but after a short time in private practice joined the government meat inspection service, working at Omaha, Neb.; Fairmont and Albert Lea, Minn. For the past 20 years he was in charge of the government serum and virus inspection service in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. He made his headquarters and home at Indianapolis. He had for many years been a member of the Masonic lodge.

He was married July 12, 1905 to Miss Nellie Cole, Ames. Surviving him, besides his wife, are three sons, David, Gordon and Donald; one sister, Mrs. Harry Childs and three brothers, Harry, Corpus
Christi, Texas; Dan, Sioux City and Will, Ames. Mrs. Stillwell is a sister of Elizabeth, Will, Ben, Kate, Lew, Dr. C. G. and Avis Cole, all of Ames; and Mrs. Jesse Augustine, of Tulsa, Okla.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday from the Adams chapel with the Rev Walter Barlow of the Collegiate Presbyterian church in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.
