Earl Buck, 79, of Ames, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008. Arrangements are pending for visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, and services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, both in Ames.

Earl "Chub" Buck, 79, of Ames, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in State Center.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Earl Buck was born June 10, 1929, in State Center, to George and Margaret (Schuler) Buck. He graduated from State Center High School. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1952. He married Alice Schoeneck on Nov. 13, 1954, in State Center.

He was a member of the American Legion in State Center. He was employed by a local trucking firm until ill health brought about early retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Buck, of Ames; son, Mike (Cyndee) Buck, of West Des Moines; three grandsons, Chad (Kerry), Ryan, and Adam Buck; one great granddaughter, Jaedyn Lynn Buck; sister, Karen (Dale); and two brothers, Merle (Jean) and Dan.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janette, in 1980; parents; and two sisters, Arlene and Verneice.
