Dean Merlin Huston, 85, of Ames, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, in Ames. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Ames. Private family burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Adams Funeral Home.
Dean Merlin Huston was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Early, to Vaughn and Ruby (Stocks) Huston. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Maybl Olson June 4, 1950, in Ames.
He earned a master's degree in ag economics at Iowa State University. After graduation from ISU, he worked for Extension services in eastern Iowa in farm management for six years, and worked in manufacturing and distribution of plastics in O.A. Olson Manufacturing, a family-owned business,
He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and Ames Noon Rotary Club; was active in Youth and Shelter Services where he served on the board of directors, past board member and president of Memorial Union Board, and served on Ames City Council for eight years in the 1970s.
He is survived by his wife, Maybl, of Ames; three sons, David (Cynthia) Huston, of Overland Park, Kan., George (Jean) Huston, of Rochester, Minn., and Steve (Kristin) Huston, of Johnston; one sister, Mary Lou Ivey of Huntsville, Ala.; six grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be given to Youth and Shelter Services in Ames or a charity of your choice.
