Collins Woman Dies in Motor Crash at D.M.

COLLINS—Mrs. Tressa Fouts, 60, of six miles east of Collins, was killed Saturday afternoon when the car in which she was riding with her husband Joseph P. Fouts, was struck by a truck at a Des Moines street intersection. Mr. Fouts suffered a lacerated ear and face bruises.

The accident occurred four blocks from the home of H. B. Fouts, son of the dead woman and her husband, where they were planning to spend Sunday.

Shortly after the crash, Mrs. H. B. Fouts and her eight year old daughter, Joy Ann, came on the scene en route home from the girl's music lesson at Drake university. Mrs. Fouts saw the unconscious body of her mother-in-law lying on the pavement where it had fallen when the Fouts car had overturned.

Joe McDivvitt, 34 of Des Moines, driver of the truck which struck the Fouts car, was charged with manslaughter and after making a statement to police, he was arranged before Municipal Judge Charles S. Cooter. McDivitt pleaded not guilty and was released on $10,000 bond. His hearing was set for 2 p. m. Nov. 20.

Mrs. Fouts died shortly after the accident at a Des Moines hospital where she and Mr. Fouts were taken. After being treated, Mr. Fouts was taken to the home of his son.

The Fouts' moved to the farm near here 10 years ago from Louisville, Ky. Mrs. Fouts body will be taken there for burial.

Besides her husband and son, Mrs. Fouts is survived by a sister, Mrs. Charles Wentz of Louisville.
