Boyd "Bud" David Carpenter Jr., 65, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, of complications from pneumonia and lung cancer. In honor of his request, the body was cremated and no services were held.

Bud Carpenter was born Sept. 17, 1943, the second of eight children born to Boyd David Carpenter Sr. and Josephine Marie Greenwaldt Carpenter. Over the years, he was a truck driver, car salesman, and apartment, motel and mobile home park manager. He was the manager of Old Orchard and Creekside Mobile Home Park in Ames from 1998 to 2002. He was an avid Jeff Gordon fan, loved to shoot darts, listen to country music and spoil his grandkids. He loved and was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two sons, Billy (Nicky) Carpenter and Donnie Carpenter; two daughters, Angela (Brian) Strum and Nicolle (Ben) Scott; grandchildren, Ashley Peercy, Andrew Scott, Xavier Carpenter, and Brittany, Breanna and Alex Carpenter; four sisters, Vivian (Dean) Luthie, Darleen (Bud) Webber, Marlene (James) Kilts and Carla Bousman; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry and Rick; and one sister, Charlene.

Special thanks to the paramedics and the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Lutheran Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines was in charge of arrangements.
