THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Wednesday, October 1, 2008.

Orville Boyd, age 80, of Jewell, Iowa, passed way on Sept. 23, 2008. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Visitation was at the church on Thursday evening 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment was in the Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.

Orville was born and raised in Story City, graduating high school there. He married Ida M. Meyers and together they raised five children. He was an Army veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He worked as a maintenance engineer at Belmond Community Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Boyd of Jewell; sons, Michael (Kris) of Jewell, and Kevin (PJ) of Windsor Heights; daughters, Kay (Pat) Kinsella of Duluth, Minnesota, and Kristin (Curt) Perkins of Madrid; son-in-law Frank Thompson of Ellsworth; 16 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Eldon in Arkansas and Marion in Texas; two sisters, Mabel Schroeder in Charles City and Gertrude Dickinson in Jewell; and his aunt, Olive Schlafke in Jewell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma (Schlafke) Boyd; daughter, Susan; brother, Walter; and sister, Marjorie.
