Neil Robert "Rip" Ripley, 96, of Ames, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, of pneumonia, relating to a stroke. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at North Grand Christian Church, with Pastor Jim Gilmore officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Rip was born Nov. 14, 1911, in Alvord, the son of Arthur and Edith Ripley. He had lived in Missouri for 36 years before moving to Ames two years ago. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II. He was married to Gladys W. Ripley for 71 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; two sons, Merwyn and wife, Nan, and Bob and wife, Judy; and two daughters, Barbara and June.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
