TRI-COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 25, 2008.

Lois Ruth Whitney, 81, passed away on Thursday, September 18, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Lois was born January 8, 1927 to John and Sina (Larson) Christofferson in Cambridge, IA. Lois graduated from Cambridge High School in 1944. She worked at Bankers Life in Des Moines until she married Ronald Whitney and together they farmed in White Oak for six years. In 1954 they moved to Iowa Falls, where they raised their 5 children and owned and operated the Iowa Falls Sales Pavilion until 1971. In 1971 they moved to Eldon, Missouri with their sons Kevin and Calvin. Lois returned to her home area she loved in 1978 and resided in Huxley. In 1978 she became the receptionist for the Story County Court House until she retired in 1992. Lois was very involved as an officer of the Cambridge Historical Society and worked tirelessly for the Cambridge Alumni Association. She was a kind and loving wife and mother whose first thought always was for the welfare of her family.

She will be sadly missed by her children, David of Golden Valley, MN., Rayma of Vero Beach, FL., Stewart (Hilda) of New Bern, NC., Kevin (Noi) of Clovis, CA. and Calvin of Lake Ozark, MO., grandchildren, Mandy, Beth, Tyler, Kasia, Khawyn, Brett and Brandon; sisters June Erickson and Edith Scott; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her two brothers, Harold and Wendell and infant sister Evelyn.

A visitation was held on Monday September 22 at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Funeral service was held at the funeral home on Tuesday September 23 at 1:00 p.m. Burial followed at Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, the family will direct memorials to Cambridge Historical Society and Cambridge Alumni Association. Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted with the arrangements.
