Donald W. Stevens, 77, of Nevada, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Donald William Stevens, 77, of Nevada, died on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial of Don and Verla's cremains will follow in the Maxwell Cemetery

Don was born on Nov. 2, 1930, in Ames to William and Ethel (Kelly) Stevens. He married Verla Jean Breer on June 24, 1950, in rural Cambridge. Don was a building engineer for George White Chevrolet and, after his retirement, he was employed at the D.O.T. He enjoyed buying cars, working and bowling.

He is survived by two sons, Darrell Stevens, of Ames, and Bill Stevens, of Runnells; two daughters, Carol Bappe, of Colo, and Bev Fiscel, of Altoona; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Skare, of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Verla, on Nov. 24, 2004, two grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.

A memorial fund has been established in his name for the Israel Family Hospice House, 400 S. Dakota Avenue, Ames, IA, 50014.

Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services has been entrusted with Don and his family.
