Gary Leland Heck, 65, of Story City, passed away July 24, 2008 at his home in rural Boone County. Burial was Monday, July 28, at 2:00 p.m. at South St. Petri Cemetery, rural Gilbert. There was a memorial service Tuesday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Life Point Church (1st Assembly of God) in Ames.

Gary Heck was born December 21, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1969. Gary married Sharon Rae Russell on June 4, 1972. He had lived in the rural Story City area for 20 years and worked as a mechanic. He enjoyed lawn work, guns, and building things. He loved to spend time with his grandson.

Gary is survived by his mother Norma Lee of Des Moines; one son Eric (Crystal) Heck of Des Moines; one sister Kathy Moore of Pennsylvania; two brothers Greg Lee of Des Moines and Dennis Lee of Missouri; and his grandson Preston Heck.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and his father Eugene Lee.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City has been entrusted with the arrangements.
