Carol J. Carlisle, 50, of Roland, Iowa, died on Sunday, August 3, 2008, at her home in Roland. Following cremation, memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the' First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, with Pastor Bruce Baillie officiating. Burial followed at the Eldora City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The ALS Association Iowa Chapter 6165 NW 86th Street, Suite 205, Johnston, Iowa 50131. Carol Jean (Nichols) Carlisle was born September 8, 1957, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Nelson E. and Mary Lois (Sunderlin) Nichols. When she was young, she and her family lived in Arizona, and then moved to Eldora, Carol graduated from the Eldora High School in 1975. She furthered her education and graduated with a degree as a surgical tech. She worked for a short time at the Newton Hospital, and also took training as an EMT, working for the ambulance service in Eldora. She worked several other jobs in the area, and lastly had been employed for Iowa State University in Ames for the past nine years. While at the university, Carol worked in several different departments, and had recently been working in the library. On May 23, 1998, she was united in marriage to Daniel Edward Carlisle at the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock. After their marriage, Carol and Daniel continued to live in Eldora, until April 2007, when they made their home in Roland, Iowa.

Carol was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock. She loved to vegetable and flower garden, and also enjoyed canning the vegetables that she grew. Carol loved butterflies and birds - especially purple martins. She did chair caning, and was an excellent baker.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Edward Carlisle of Roland, Iowa; her father, Nelson E. Nichols of Eldora, Iowa; one brother, Brian Nichols and his wife Brenda of Eldora, Iowa; two sisters, Nancy Stewart and her husband Brad of Eldora, Iowa; Beth Folkerts and her hus band Steve of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; her father-in-law, Jesse Carlisle of Muskegon, Michigan; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Frudd and her husband Andy of Dewittville, New York.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Nichols; and her mother-in-law, Mary E. Carlisle.
